Donations NYC: Where to Give Back in Manhattan

December brings a season of celebration to our city and, to many, a spirit of generosity. Volunteering is a deeply personal way to support your city and connect with those in your community who are in need, but there are so many ways to make a positive change during the holidays. During this busy time of year, donating cash or goods is one way to make time to give back. Consider contributing to one of our NYC partners accepting donations this December:

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York provides essential medical services to over 60,000 patients here in New York City. PPNYC also provides valuable education, empowering teens and adults to take control of their health and reproductive decisions. Your donation helps ensure that PPNYC can keep care accessible to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

New York Civil Liberties Union

The NYCLU defends the basic rights and freedoms of all New Yorkers, every day. Support for the NYCLU provides funds for their three main areas of action: community outreach and education, work in the courts as a public interest law firm, and legislative reform efforts in local, state, and federal government.

LGBT Center

A donation to The Center supports a home in our community for our LGBT friends and family here in Manhattan. With programs that promote the arts, resources for families and youth, access to treatment for health issues and substance abuse, as well as career development opportunities, your contribution is sure to make a direct impact in the life of a fellow New Yorker.

Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Donate to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and support scientists around the globe who are working toward a cure. 91% of donations to BCRF goes to research and awareness so your contributions, no matter the size, will be put directly to use in the fight against cancer.

Innocence Project

While we’re gathering with our families for the holidays, let’s keep in mind those who are separated from their loved ones. The Innocence Project is working to reunite the wrongfully convicted with their families through DNA testing and criminal justice reform. Your donation helps to finance testing, legal fees, advocacy, and other efforts on behalf of the innocent.

Children’s Aid Society

To make an impact close to home, consider a donation to the Children’s Aid Society. The Children’s Aid society are on the front lines in New York, providing at-risk and impoverished children with essentials like warm clothing and hot meals to in-home visits and educational and career training programs. Send a child to summer camp or help them prepare with for the SAT, and encourage your employer to match your gift this holiday season.  Children’s Aid also accept in-kind donations including toys, books, school supplies and more, as well as large items that can be auctioned or raffled at fundraising events. If you are looking for a new home for your gently used items, contact giving@childrensaidnyc.org.

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is a non-profit founded to close the gender gap in technology, growing to become a nationwide movement that has reached 90,000 girls in all 50 states.

Contributions to Girls Who Code helps to educate girls to pursue STEM opportunities, including expanding the reach of the program, training volunteers and teachers for clubs and summer programs, and develop new programs to close the gender gap in technology.
